Who Is HSBC?

There are many banks around the world but there are only a few that stand out as leaders. HSBC is one of those banks. HSBC started out in Hong Kong and was called Hong Kong and Shanghai Limited. Their history is very long dating back to 1865. The intent of the company was established to help China and European commerce when they started their business in Australia. They quickly became known for their solid work in banking and for their excellent financial products.

Their presence in Australia continued to grow and so did business between China and Europe. They began in Australia in the year 1965 and were called at the time “HSBC Finance Company Limited.” As the company grew, they brought on HSBC Asset Limited and just a few years later were granted the permission to function as a real bank. This time is of some significance because it was the first time in Australian history that the government gave permission to a foreign bank to do business in Australia.

At the time that they were granted permission to set up as a bank they were also beginning to offer financial products for commercial businesses. After about 5 years later, they also started providing trade services.

Then in 1995, they were selling home loan products and also consolidated consumer statements. In 1996, they started offering ATM/EFTPOS cards to their clients. The Australian division was called HSBC Bank Australia Limited and it is still currently one of HSBC’s main subsidiaries. Credit Cards – Strong Then and Strong Now and Recognition For Excellence

Back in the 90’s, HSBC added some new financial products to their business. Credit cards became one of their cornerstone products. They also provided phone banking and services for financial planning. They were poised to become a major banking brand globally. Because of their stellar work, they were recongised with numerous awards. One of these esteemed awards was the “Best Foreign Bank “award.

Fast forward a few years and you will find that HSBC had assumed the “NRMA Building Society Limited.” Continuing to build their brand, they started some additional branches in North Ryde, Bondi Junctions and Maroubra. Progressing and understand where banking was headed, they advanced their company into the cyber age by launching a bank site back in 2001. These were for all of their customers who were interested in doing online banking.

Continuing their flare for the cutting edge, they created the “DocumentExpress” service. This was so innovative and popular that it garnered the prize for “Best New Product” back in 2002.

As the years have passed, HSBC grows continually and delivers more and more products to their customers. They continue to win awards and, in fact, won awards recently for “Best New Product for Cash Management Account” and also for “Best Website” for their Australian website.

Beyond the awards, however, HSBC is regarded highly and respected by their peers because of their continual efforts in charitable giving. They work with Royal Botanic Gardens and the Hawthorne Football Club in order to bring forth the Sustainable Horticulture Environmental Program. They feel an intense obligation to give back to Australia who has given them so much. What Kinds of Products Are Offered?
